Leon Stafford

Meet Captain Leon Stafford

Veteran Angler and Columbia River Specialist

Captain Leon Stafford is more than just a guide; he is a dedicated outdoorsman whose roots in the Pacific Northwest run deep. An ex-Navy veteran, Leon brought his discipline and love for the water back home to Southeast Washington, where he has fished the Columbia and Snake Rivers since he was a child. After a life-altering injury changed his professional path, he turned his lifelong passion into a full-time mission, attending captain school to share the beauty of these inland waterways with others. His background has instilled in him a hardworking, resilient approach that ensures he is always the first one on the water and the last to give up on a bite.

Leon’s guiding philosophy is built on being an "everyday fisherman’s guide"—someone who is approachable, high-energy, and genuinely excited about every fish that comes over the rail. He specializes in the technical nuances of the region's diverse fisheries, from tracking the high-intent migration patterns of Spring Chinook to understanding the deep-water haunts of prehistoric sturgeon. His local knowledge isn't just learned; it’s lived. Having spent decades navigating these rivers, he understands how seasonal shifts, dam counts, and weather patterns affect fish behavior, allowing him to provide a reliable and educational experience for every guest.

Beyond his technical skills, Leon is known for creating a welcoming environment where families and solo anglers alike feel at home. He often brings his young son along on the boat, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere that emphasizes the joy of the sport rather than just the limit. His goal for every trip is to build a foundation of trust and safety, ensuring that guests feel confident in his expertise from the moment they step onto the dock. Whether he is explaining the best bait for a specific run or helping a child land their first walleye, Leon’s enthusiasm for the Northwest river life is both authentic and contagious.

The Vessel: Built for Northwest River Performance

To provide a safe and stable platform for navigating Washington’s powerful river systems, Captain Leon operates a 24-foot Boulton aluminum fishing boat. This vessel features a 22-foot hull complemented by a 2.5-foot offshore bracket, offering ample deck space and stability for up to six guests. Powered by a reliable Yamaha 225 engine, the boat cruises comfortably at 30–35 miles per hour, allowing for efficient travel between the best fishing hotspots on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. The Boulton is specifically designed for the demands of Northwest angling, providing a rugged yet comfortable environment equipped with the latest fish-finding technology and high-quality gear to ensure you are fully prepared for the day’s adventure.
